I used to have this. Meditation can really help. It is easy and free.
Do it in a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Turn off telephones, etc. Dim the lights a little. Close your eyes and clear all of the thoughts from your mind. Thoughts will creep back in, and when they do, just clear them out again. This will happen many times at first, but as you gain experience, you mind will be under you control more and more.
At first, you might want to meditate 5 minutes twice a day. As you notice that you are getting better at clearing thoughts away, increase the time. 30 minutes twice a day will probably be very beneficial.
If you keep at it, you will eventually be able to meditate anywhere, no matter how much noise or other distractions there are.
Good luck.
P.S. I assume that you know deep breathing can help. You can combine deep breathing with meditation.

Hello I am an agoraphobic with post traumatic stress disorder and severe panic disorder. In 1985 I was shot, beaten and robbed while working a second job at night, in a convenience store. I have gone to Duke university Panic clinic and several others around the country. To this date I still am recovering. I did stop the Panic attacks for several ( 6) years and they just recently started up again. My biggest battle was over coming the fear of death. Every time I herd a loud bang or smelled a certain scent, I was going over the edge. That major things that I had to do was first seek counseling. In counseling I learned several forms of relaxation therapy. If you have them( Panic attacks) extreme, you should learn these with a professional that understands your illness. That way you feel safe and can relax a little more than if you are by yourself. I also did Bio-Feedback.I have never heard of the Linden Method. I accomplished all of this without medication, so do not be afraid to seek counseling if you think you have to take meds. and you don’t want to. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. Just remember …You can’t die from panic.

Hi Samantha. Have you been tested for Celiac Disease? This is an autoimmune disorder that damages the lining of the small intestine. The disease is very common, occurring in 1 person in 100, but is rarely diagnosed in the U.S.
Most patients with Celiac Disease (CD) do not have the classic symptoms (many have no obvious symptoms at all), which is why most doctors do not ‘think about it’ for the many patients with this disease.
Bare with me, while I try to explain the possible relationship between CD and panic attacks.
Numerous recent scientific studies (your psychiatrist should be familiar with these but probably isn’t) have shown that panic attacks can be induced by imbalances or increased sensitivity to a hormone called Cholecystokinin (CCK). CCK is produced in the GUT and in the BRAIN. Secretion of CCK by the gut in patients with Celiac Disease is dramatically abnormal. CCK is normally secreted by the gut to induce contraction of the gallbladder, secretion of digestive ‘juices’ by the pancreas and to provide ‘feedback’ to the brain to signal ’satiety’ (fullness). Again, abnormal production/secretion of CCk with CD may cause abnormal levels in the brain, which would induce panic attacks.
I hope this was not too complicated for you to follow. This may or may not solve your problem. But if it is the cause of your problem it is readily treatable without drugs. The only treatment for Celiac Disease is the absolute avoidance of the proteins in wheat, rye and barley (called glutens/gliadins) that cause the disease.
Best wishes and good luck.
